Today was a gloriously warm, beautiful day! It got up to 71F (21C) this afternoon so the kids and I spent much of the day outside soaking it up!
After quite a bit of time riding bikes, drawing with sidewalk chalk, and pulling weeds from the flower beds, we headed over to our old fruit trees to assess them.
Both our pear and apple trees are in desperate need of pruning and shaping, but I don’t have any real experience yet with pruning.
Since we moved in about 2 years ago, the apple tree hasn’t produced any fruit. The pear tree produces loads of delicious pears despite the poor shape it’s in.
I’m hoping that with the appropriate amount of pruning, we’ll get to enjoy our own apples in the next couple of years.
The bees were out and very happy about the beautiful weather, we paused from the playtime for a little while to watch them come and go.
While I haven’t seen any flowers open yet, I have seen some clouds of pollen fall from our evergreen bushes. The bees will happily gather pollen since it is a necessary source of protein for them that is very important for baby bee development.
The chorus of spring peeper frogs sang to us all day, one of my most favorite sounds of springtime. The redwing blackbirds are back as well, calling out to each other every few seconds.
This spring is going to be a good one, I can’t wait to see what’s in store!
